Guangdong LED industry output scale achieve "two breakthroughs"

According to Li Xinghua, Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province, the semiconductor lighting industry is a strategic emerging industry that is supported and developed in Guangdong Province during the 12th Five-Year Plan period. The development of the LED industry faces two prominent problems. First, the core technologies and key equipment are subject to human beings, and the second is the difficulty of market promotion and application.

In August 2011, the Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Department took the lead in organizing 21 research institutes and leading companies to jointly establish the "Guangdong Province Semiconductor Industry Lighting Industry Joint Innovation Center." With the center as a link, upstream and downstream industrial chain or complementary technology companies, relevant universities and research institutes, etc. have jointly tackled a number of core LED key technologies. At present, there are 1,270 LED patents in Guangdong, ranking first in the country. Collaborative innovation in open cooperation has accelerated the pace of independent innovation in the LED industry.

The LED industry currently has problems with higher product prices, lower awareness, and greater resistance in the original interest chain. To this end, Guangdong has established a joint conference system for the entire province, and relevant departments have jointly organized the implementation of the “1,000 Miles” high-power LED street lamp industrialization demonstration and promotion project and the green lighting demonstration city special action. The construction of a new expressway LED lighting demonstration project has been initiated in Guangzhou (Changzhou) Lechang (Changzhou) and Bo (Luo) Shenzhen (Shenzhen), etc. The province has installed more than 260,000 LED street lights and more than 2,500 kilometers of demonstration road sections. At present, experts from universities, research institutes, LED companies, and industry associations have jointly drawn up the LED industry technology roadmap of Guangdong Province so that the government and industry can more clearly grasp the mainstream products, industry goals, and core technologies of the LED industry. The direction is to integrate production, education and research into practice, and scientific innovation is more targeted and efficient.
