What system is MeeGo

MeeGo is a product of cooperation between Intel and Nokia. Launched for the first time at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in 2010, this project combines Intel's Moblin and Nokia's Maemo systems to work on a wider range of devices, including netbooks, smart phones, and car entertainment systems.

The latest version of MeeGo is currently 1.2, called MeeGo Harmattan. Nokia has been developing the Harmattan system when it establishes a partnership with Intel. After the announcement of the abandonment of MeeGo earlier this year, it continued to develop based on Maemo 6, and added the Handset UX (User Interface) designed for MeeGo.

Currently, only the Nokia N9 (16GB) is equipped with the MeeGo system in commercial smartphones. Nokia will continue to launch three Meego mobile phones in the next three years. There is also the N950, Nokia only made 250 and is only available to developers and will not be sold in the market. At present, the MeeGo mobile operating system platform has already included such heavyweight manufacturers as Intel, Nokia, LG, ZTE, and China Mobile. Of course, among these vendors, Nokia and Intel are the firmest supporters of the MeeGo mobile operating system.

Hardware Requirements MeeGo supports both ARM and x86 processors and supports the SSSE3 instruction set. And use btrfs as the default file system.

MeeGo supports a wide range of processors including the Intel Atom and ARMv7 platforms. It also supports Qt, allowing developers to easily port applications across platforms. It also supports various communication modules including GSM, GPRS and HSPA+. NFC functionality has been included in MeeGo 1.2. Netbook and desktop versions of the MeeGo system will also support Adobe Flash.

Supporting Device Classification The current version of the MeeGo mobile phone system is 1.2, which is called MeeGo Harmattan. It was guessed by the industry that Maemo 6 system. When Nokia established a partnership with Intel last year, Nokia has been developing the Harmattan system. MeeGo Computer Tablet Intel showed its tablet Meego at the Taipei International Computer Show in early June 2010.

The tablet meego, like other MeeGo projects, will be a completely open source project and will use the Qt and MeeGo Touch frameworks. Intel revealed that Qt will combine Wayland display servers instead of the common Qt/X11 combination on MeeGo Touch to take advantage of the latest graphics technology supported by the Linux kernel, which can improve the user experience and reduce system complexity.

The GENIVI consortium, a vehicle-based communication and entertainment device, was established by several automobile manufacturers and their business partners. Moblin and Qt are used as the basis for the "GENIVI 1.0 Reference Platform", which is used in vehicle-based IVIs. Graham Smethurst of the GENIVI Alliance and BMW Group announced that they will switch from Moblin to MeeGo in April 2010.

Only Nokia N9 (16GB) supports the MeeGo system in commercially available smart phones that support models.
