Semtech and MultiPhy Publicly Showcase 100G Single Wavelength Chipsets with EML Optics

Semtech Corporation and MultiPhy Ltd, two leading innovators in high-speed optical communications, have announced a groundbreaking collaboration to advance 100G single-wavelength technology. This cutting-edge solution leverages advanced PHY/PMD chipsets that support both 100G Ethernet and CPRI optical modules, paving the way for more efficient and cost-effective data transmission. At OFC 2018, the companies will showcase a fully operational 2km optical link using this technology, marking a major milestone in the evolution of high-bandwidth communication systems. The demonstration features multiple 2km links powered by Semtech’s FiberEdge™ chipset and MultiPhy’s FlexPhy device, driving EML optics with precision and reliability. The system includes Semtech’s FiberEdge GN1860 EML driver, known for its high output swing and linearity, along with the GN3289 Linear Optical Receiver Sub-Module (ROSA) and GN1089 High Performance Low Noise Linear Transimpedance Amplifier (TIA). Combined with MultiPhy’s FlexPhy platform, this integrated solution offers a robust and scalable approach to achieving 100G single-wavelength interconnects. Gary Beauchamp, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Signal Integrity Products at Semtech, highlighted the significance of this development: “Semtech’s FiberEdge chipset continues to set new benchmarks in 100G single-wavelength technology. Demonstrating a 2km link with low-cost EML optics is a crucial step toward broader market adoption.” MultiPhy’s FlexPhy platform is designed to meet the growing demands of next-generation data centers and 5G networks. It uses advanced digital signal processing (DSP) to convert a 4x25Gbps NRZ CAUI4 host bus into a single 100G PAM4 IO pair on the line side. With a compact BGA package and optimized high-speed IO layout, it is ideal for integration into QSFP28 modules.
