Texas Instruments Introduces the Lowest Power Class G Headphone Amplifier to Extend Music Play Time

Texas Instruments (TI) announced the launch of two new 25 mW, Class G DirectPath â„¢ stereo headphone amplifiers that can adjust the supply voltage of audio signals to minimize power consumption, which can greatly extend the music playback of music phones and MP3 players Time benefits users greatly. In the comparison test of independent lithium-ion batteries of TI G technology and ground reference AB competitive products, it was found that TPA6140A2 and TPA6141A2 can reduce power consumption by 30%. Compared with the best music headphones using Class AB amplifiers currently on the market, this amplifier increases music playback time by 20%.

Art George, senior vice president of TI ’s high-performance analog business, pointed out: “From Dallas to Delhi, from San Francisco to Shanghai, no matter where consumers go, they want to be able to enjoy MP3 music throughout the flight without worrying about arriving on the flight Whether there is enough battery power to make calls. Waiting for devices to play a key role in saving battery power, make the above assumptions come true. "

Other important features of these two amplifiers can also significantly improve sound quality. These devices use TI's proven DirectPath technology, which eliminates large DC blocking capacitors at the output of the amplifier, giving designers more board space and allowing consumers to appreciate better low-frequency, high-fidelity sound quality. In addition, the TPA6140A2 and TPA6141A2 also use a built-in noise suppression circuit, which can completely eliminate the disturbing noise noise when the amplifier is powered on, achieving a seamless audio experience. The power supply rejection ratio of more than 100 dB and the differential input can further improve the noise suppression level, while the 100 dB signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) can improve the sound quality and achieve clear audio effects.

Other features and advantages of TPA6140A2 and TPA6141A2

The quiescent current consumption per channel of the above amplifier is only 0.6 mA, and it can provide a total power supply current of less than 5 mA while supplying 5 mW per channel for a 32 ohm load, thereby extending battery life;

· When TPA6140A2 and TPA6141A2 are used with TI low-power audio converters, speaker amplifiers, OMAP3 ™ processors and TMS320C550x and TMS320C540x devices, low energy consumption systems can be realized;

· TPA6140A2 not only provides variable gain ranging from -59 dB to +4 dB, but also can be programmed through 32-step I2C volume control to maximize design flexibility. TPA6141A2 can provide two fixed gain settings of 0 dB and +6 dB for customers who do not require flexibility;

· The discrete SGND pin can reduce ground loop noise when interfaced with non-headphone accessories.

Availability

The TPA6140A2 in a small 1.6 mm x 1.6 mm WCSP package is now available in volume and can be ordered through TI and its authorized distributors. TPA6141A2 will be available in 2009.
