Rock Expansion Force Meter

Introduction

This device is specifically designed for expansion pressure testing under constant volume conditions in various rock expansion tests. It is widely used in geotechnical engineering to evaluate the behavior of rock samples under controlled stress and moisture conditions.

Equipment Compliance

JTG E41, as outlined in the "Railway Test Procedures for Highway Engineering," ensures that the equipment meets the required standards. The device includes essential components such as a permeable plate and a dial gauge. It features a digital display that allows manual adjustment of pressure through a screw mechanism, ensuring precise control during testing.

Instructions

1. Place the test specimen inside a metal collar coated with vaseline on the inner surface. A thin filter paper and a metal permeable plate should be placed on both the top and bottom of the specimen.

2. Install a gauge to measure the pressurized system and the deformation of the specimen.

3. Ensure that all parts of the instrument and the specimen are aligned on the same axis to avoid eccentric loading.

4. Apply a pressure load of 0.01 MPa to the specimen and record the deformation readings every 10 minutes until three consecutive readings remain unchanged.

5. Slowly fill the water container with clean water until the upper permeable plate is submerged. Monitor the deformation gauge when the deformation exceeds 0.001 mm. Adjust the applied load while maintaining the height of the specimen constant throughout the test.

6. At the beginning of each test, take one reading every 10 minutes. If the difference between three consecutive readings is less than 0.001 mm, increase the interval to one reading per hour. When the difference remains below 0.001 mm over three consecutive hourly readings, the load can be considered stable, and the results should be recorded. The total immersion time in water should not be less than 48 hours.

7. Maintain a constant water level during the test. The temperature change must not exceed 2°C.
