The NASA Glenn Research Center is located in Cleveland, Ohio. The scientific team led by engineer Taylor Hickman has achieved staged results of rocket engine 3D printing technology. This research may change the design and manufacture of rocket engines. Sacramento rocket engine manufacturer Aerojet also participated in this research. Engineers tried to verify whether 3D printing can be applied to the production of precision rocket engine components. For example, in the manufacture of engine nozzle components, 3D printing technology is used compared to traditional manufacturing. The process shortens more time, but there is very little specific information about the technology. This is because US law limits the transparency of rocket engine design and prevents the technology from flowing out.

Jeff Haynes, the project director of Aerojet, believes that the test results are satisfactory. During the injection of liquid oxygen and hydrogen, the performance of the 3D printed parts is perfect, and after using the 3D printing technology, the manufacturing time is significantly shortened. It took only 4 months before and after, and the cost was cut by about 70%. NASA is not the only institution that is researching space 3D printing technology.
