Brightness can not catch up with AC LED chip factory to HV LED

AC LED chip manufacturers have adjusted the proportion of high-voltage (HV) LED chip development. Under the difficult breakthrough of AC LED technology, the brightness has been slow to catch up with the traditional direct current (DC) LED. Therefore, AC LED suppliers are competing to increase the layout of HV LED with luminous efficiency and heat dissipation advantages to make up for the AC LED product line. Lost revenue.

A few days ago, AC LED chip and packaging semiconductor company Seoul Semiconductor has developed an AC LED module Acrich2 with a luminous efficiency of 100 lumens per watt through up to sixteen HV LEDs with a rectifier, and by integrating multi-cell (Integrated MulTI -cell) technology, improve the power factor (PF) up to 0.99, 50% less power consumption than the previous generation.

Chen Dongliang pointed out that because the luminous efficiency of AC LEDs is difficult to meet the requirements of the lighting market, in the past, actively explored the application of candle lamps and small bulbs. However, because the price is higher than DC LEDs, it is difficult to reach out. HV LEDs are equipped with rectifiers to create AC LED modules and actively grab the market for general-purpose lighting.

However, Epistar, Seoul Semiconductor, Samsung and other HV LED die manufacturers use different core technologies. Therefore, the developed HC LED architecture is very different, and the luminous efficiency is also very similar. At present, Epistar's HV LED luminous efficiency has reached 150 lumens per watt; as for Seoul Semiconductor and Samsung, the luminous efficiency is below 100 lumens per watt.

Chen Dongliang believes that the improvement of brightness and price reduction is the primary task of HV LED to expand its power. Taking Seoul Semiconductor ’s built-in HV LED with an 8-watt 600-lumen AC LED module as an example, the overall module price is more than $ 3; however, Nichia's DC LED quotation is about NT $ 8 per watt. In other words, the price of eight DC LED modules is only about US $ 3, which shows that there is still room for HV LED cost reduction.

Affected by the rapid improvement of DC LED's luminous efficiency and the sudden drop in price, not only AC LED upstream epitaxial and chip manufacturers, but also packaging and lighting manufacturers are also affected.

Chen Dongliang mentioned that since 2011, Fuhua Electronics has stepped into the downstream lighting system from the AC LED packaging factory to expand the export of products. However, due to the decline of the Japanese economy, the monthly AC LED packaging shipments have been viewed from above. One hundred thousand pieces fell to one hundred thousand pieces, so Fuhua Electronics also started to deploy DC LEDs. Today, the larger order volume has been mainly based on DC LEDs, which are mainly supplied to the lighting products of the parent company Datong.
