Newly opened LED battlefield

How big is the LED business opportunity?

The arrogance of Hon Hai and AUO has gradually confirmed the inference of Taiwan's "Business Weekly": LED will be the protagonist of the next battle.

As LED penetration in notebook computers, LCD TVs and other markets is increasing, LED as the backlight will be the first popular application in the market. Taiwan's LED packaging industry leader Yiguang Electronics is optimistic that after 2010, LCD TVs, notebooks, LCD monitors and other large-size display products will have 6 to 7 times more LEDs in the field of handheld devices, and only the latter's annual demand It is about 13.5 billion units.

According to market research organizations, the penetration rate of LCD TVs in Taiwan has exceeded half. In 2009, the sales volume of LCD TVs in Taiwan was about 1.05 million units. The huge business opportunity that really makes the giants covet is the global incandescent lamp ban policy. The Taiwan region plans to implement the incandescent lamp cut-off policy from 2010 and will ban production in 2012. At the same time, countries, such as Australia, the United States, Japan and the European Union, have also listed the timetable for incandescent lamps.

Although the pace of China's phasing out of incandescent lamps in 10 years is relatively slow compared to most countries, the LED lighting market has its own footprint. Yan Jun, deputy secretary-general of the National Semiconductor Lighting Engineering R&D and Industry Alliance, predicts that by 2012, the market share of LED lighting in the mainland will reach 20%. Seeing that Taiwanese companies have rushed to the mainland market, Zheng Haowen, director of the National High-Tech Enterprise Development LED Professional Committee, said that in 2010, the domestic investment in LED industry will increase by 500% from 10 billion yuan in 2009 to 60 billion yuan. The Shanghai World Expo and the Guangzhou Asian Games will also drive the LED industry investment boom.
