Japanese factory liquid-cooled LED headlights are better than heat sinks

On October 26th, Ledinside reported that Japanese automotive lighting manufacturer Stanley Electric has produced liquid-cooled LED headlamps. The company's staff said that compared to the traditional method of using fin cooling, the liquid-cooled cooling effect is high, and even if a larger driving current is supplied to the LED, the temperature of the LED can be kept within the operating temperature range. Therefore, "brightness can be increased by several tens of percentage points." Taking 4 LED headlamps as an example, the original brightness of about 1000 lm can be increased to 1500 to 1600 lm. Moreover, liquid cooling does not require a heat sink, which contributes to weight reduction. The cooling mechanism of the prototype uses a dedicated heat sink. In the future, the company also hopes to "share part of the radiator and cooling water" with the cooling mechanism of the vehicle inverter.

The company intends to equip the headlamps with cars in 2 to 3 years. However, practical use is also facing cost problems, although the elimination of the heat sink can reduce the cost, and the heat sink and the pump are special products, resulting in an increase in cost. To achieve practicality, the company will try to solve this problem.
