On January 10th, China unveiled its first unmanned cross-seat monorail line, marking a significant milestone in smart urban transportation. The Yinchuan Cloud Track, developed by BYD, became the world’s first straddle-type monorail system with a fully independent intellectual property and an automated operation system. This groundbreaking project showcases China's growing influence in the global high-tech transit industry.
The launch of the unmanned system was celebrated at the Yinchuan Cloud Track, where BYD and Huawei jointly held a major event. Attending the ceremony were Yang Yujing, Mayor of Yinchuan City, Wang Chuanfu, Chairman and President of BYD, and Guo Ping, Vice Chairman and CEO of Huawei, who witnessed the official release of the cloudless driverless system. This collaboration highlights the synergy between China's leading automotive and tech companies in shaping the future of urban mobility.
The Yinchuan Cloud Track is set to enter trial operations in the second quarter of 2018. It is expected to become a key model for future high-tech urban transport systems, emphasizing efficiency, safety, and smart technology integration.
BYD’s autonomous driving system has reached the highest level of automation—UTO (Unmanned Train Operation). This system enables full automatic operation, with features such as minimum safety tracking intervals, power failure handling, automatic diagnostics, sleep/wake functions, real-time passenger flow monitoring, and facial recognition. These capabilities ensure a smooth and secure ride for passengers.
In addition to BYD’s advanced control and positioning technologies, Huawei played a crucial role in enabling the unmanned system through its eLTE communication technology and 4.5G rail transit wireless private network. If BYD’s system acts as the "brain" of the train, Huawei’s 4.5G network serves as the "nervous system," providing fast and reliable data transmission to ensure safe and controllable operations.
Since its official operation, the Yinchuan Cloud Track has introduced facial recognition for station access, allowing passengers to enter seamlessly using their faces. Each carriage also offers high-speed wireless broadband, enhancing the overall travel experience.
Wang Chuanfu, Chairman of BYD, praised Huawei’s 4.5G wireless network, stating that it reflects the industry's trend toward wireless connectivity and meets the evolving needs of smart city development. This partnership between BYD and Huawei sets a new standard for intelligent transportation and paves the way for future innovations in urban mobility.
