In recent years, Fengdu County in Chongqing has taken a proactive approach to poverty alleviation by combining government guidance, enterprise development, and active participation from local farmers. A key focus has been on promoting the construction of distributed photovoltaic power systems for households, aiming to diversify income sources and accelerate the journey toward rural prosperity.
Recently, the author visited Xinglong Community in Longkong Town and witnessed villager Li Shuqiong working alongside technicians to install solar panels on a rooftop. She shared that after the installation, her family's previously unused roof space now generates an additional income of over 2,000 yuan annually. “We first fix the mounting structure, then install the solar panels,†she explained. Li Xiaohua, the project supervisor, mentioned that they have already completed installations for 670 households in the area.
The solar photovoltaic initiative is one of the clean energy projects introduced in Fengdu County in recent years. With an investment exceeding 10 billion yuan, the project aims to expand across 19 townships throughout the county. Currently, construction has begun in Xinglong and Longkong towns. Once fully operational, the project is expected to create long-term employment for over 500 people and generate more than 16 million yuan in annual income for local farmers, with each household earning around 2,000 yuan per year.
This industry not only supports environmental sustainability but also provides a reliable source of income for rural communities. As the project continues to grow, it represents a promising model for integrating renewable energy with poverty reduction efforts in China’s rural areas.
