I. Introduction
The instrument is manufactured according to the regulations of the Ministry of Communications industry standard T0621 for asphalt standard viscosity testing. It is used to determine the viscosity of liquid petroleum asphalt, coal asphalt, and emulsified asphalt in a flowing state. The device is controlled by a microcomputer for precise operation.
II. Main Technical Parameters
1. Thermostatic bath: φ160mm × 1
16 mm
2. Sample tube: inner diameter φ40mm
3. Orifice diameter options: φ3mm, φ4mm, φ5mm, and φ10mm (four sizes)
4. Receiving bottle: 100ml capacity
5. Temperature control range: Room temperature to 90°C
6. Temperature control accuracy: ±0.2°C
III. Operating Method
Before using the instrument, check all parts to ensure they are functioning properly. Make sure the water tank is clean and there are no obstructions in the oil tank hole. Follow these steps for testing:
1. Fill the sink with an appropriate amount of water.
2. Remove the oil sump cover.
3. Select the orifice size based on the test specifications and markings of the asphalt being tested.
4. Block the drain hole using a metal lift rod.
5. Take the asphalt sample, melt it, and pour it into the oil cup.
6. Replace the oil cup cover.
7. Set the desired temperature according to the requirements of the asphalt type. Turn on the power and start heating. Activate the stirring function. Once the set temperature is reached, maintain it for 1–3 minutes. Lift the ball plug and hang the mark on the side of the sample tube. When the sample flows into the receiving bottle or measuring cylinder up to 25ml (the measuring cylinder has a scale of 50ml), record the time. Stop timing when the sample reaches 75ml (measuring cylinder scale is 100ml). The time taken for 50ml to flow out is considered the viscosity of the sample. For more details, refer to the Ministry of Communications Industry Standard JTJ052-2000, T0621-93.
IV. Notes to Consider
1. Use the average of two parallel tests as the final result. The difference between the two results and the average must not exceed ±5%.
2. After each test, clean the instrument thoroughly. Pay special attention to the drain hole, ensuring there are no obstructions that could affect test accuracy.
3. Avoid scratching or rubbing the drain hole, as this can damage its geometry and impact measurement precision.
4. Store the instrument in a dry and well-ventilated area.
5. Our company’s asphalt viscometer does not include a measuring cylinder. Please prepare one separately if needed.
