I encountered a Sharp LCD-32L120A with a black screen and initially thought it was a backlight issue. But after opening the cover and testing, the backlight was actually working fine. I measured the edge board's 12V power supply from the side, which led me to suspect a problem with the screen or the board. I informed the customer that the issue might be with the screen, and we agreed to bring it back for repair, with a 50% chance of success.
When I got home, I opened the back cover and checked all the side panels. I found that the VGH and VGL voltages on the screen power supply were zero, even though the 12V input was also zero. That was strange—there was a short circuit to ground. After removing the TV power supply chip MAX17126, the short disappeared. I then checked the 3.3V power supply and found it was also shorted. Removing the MT71168 chip fixed the issue.
I sourced a screen board from Wenzhou and replaced two chips, along with the 12V fuse. The TV booted up, but it showed a white screen. Later, I discovered that the problem was in the edge of the screen and the edge board. Based on my experience, I decided to manually replace the edge board. I carefully blew out the screen cable and re-soldered it. After powering it up, everything worked, and the repair was successful.
Another tip: I found that the MAX17126 is functionally similar to the CM501. I compared them and confirmed they can be used interchangeably. If you can't find a good CM501, the MAX17126 is a solid alternative.
