OSRAM Opto Semiconductors publishes IESNA LM-80 report for two LED product families

Led lights, light engines and luminaire manufacturers must be certified by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for the Energy Star, and the LEDs used in their products must comply with LM-80 (Lumen Maintenance) ) Test requirements. This certification evaluates and compares LED components of all LED manufacturers to the same standard. With its two distinct product lines, OSLON SSL and Golden DRAGON Plus, OSRAM Opto Semiconductors became the first LED manufacturer to meet LM-80 test conditions.

Two OSRAM Opto Semiconductors high-power LEDs that have passed the test include ceramic OSLON SSL LEDs and Golden DRAGON Plus pre-plastic LEDs. Created by the North American Lighting Engineering Association (IESNA), the LM-80 test provides luminaire manufacturers with a way to compare the performance of LEDs from different vendors based on reliable reference data. To receive the ENERGY STAR certification from the EPA, the LM-80 test report must be successfully completed.

The LM-80 test is designed to test the lumen maintenance of solid-state lighting sources including LED packages, arrays and modules in a 6,000-hour (approximately equivalent of 9 months) industry-wide simplified test. In addition, LEDs are also tested at three different temperatures. In addition to the preset temperatures of 55 ° C and 85 ° C, OSRAM also simulates demanding applications at 105 ° C.

Artur Groesbrink, Head of Standardization at Osram Opto Semiconductors' German Headquarters, said: "Our two very different LED product lines have successfully passed the LM-80 test, which is a great initiative, but this is just the beginning. Other LED products have also been Entering the testing phase, so in the medium term, all of our high-power LEDs for general lighting will meet the LM-80 test requirements. Thereafter, luminaire manufacturers can use this important platform to apply for ENERGY STAR certification from EPA. Star Certification is essential for companies interested in successfully entering the US market."
