UV LED has always been favored for its long life, cold light source, no radiation, high energy, low energy consumption and high efficiency. At the same time, the high production technology content, high competition threshold and easy to differentiate, also make UV LED become a favorable market for LED manufacturers to compete. According to internationally renowned forecasting company Yole, the UV LED business is expected to grow to at least $520 million in 2019, with a compound annual growth rate of 44.3%.

Crystal Energy has long used UV LED as a key area of ​​development. In the first half of 2015, Jingneng Optoelectronics launched a 365-430nm high-efficiency silicon substrate UVA LED product. According to Tang Wenjun, director of UV LED marketing, the current UVA LED products on silicon substrates are already in the forefront of the industrial curing field.

UVA LED products are used in food packaging, ink curing, rubber curing, medical curing and other emerging industrial light curing markets. Technically, UVA LEDs used in industrial curing meet two major requirements: on the one hand, high energy requirements for curing require large currents to drive overdrive. For example, general lighting typically requires only 350 mA of drive current, while UVA LEDs require 700- when operating. 1000mA, which puts higher requirements on current spreading and heat dissipation of UV LED chips; on the other hand, due to the shorter wavelength of UV LED, its light penetration ability is relatively weak, but to obtain good curing effect, UVA LED The beam must penetrate into the inner layer of the cured glue, which requires the beam to concentrate and have good directivity.

“The silicon substrate UVA LED can meet the two requirements of industrial curing very well.” Tang Wenjun said, “The silicon substrate UVA LED adopts the silicon substrate LED epitaxial technology with independent intellectual property rights, and the chip is a vertical electrode structure. The structure is advantageous for overdrive, and the heat dissipation performance is better. At the same time, since only one surface emits light, the beam is concentrated, the directivity is good, and the secondary optics is easy. Meanwhile, the sapphire substrate LED chip on the market has to be made into a vertical structure, and must be adopted. Laser stripping technology has the risk of injuring the chip itself, and the reliability of the product has hidden dangers; and the natural material properties of the silicon substrate enable the LED to easily obtain the vertical electrode structure, which is more reliable than laser stripping."

The beam is evenly concentrated, the directionality is good, and the heat dissipation performance is excellent. What the UV LED needs is what the silicon substrate technology is good at, and the silicon substrate + UV LED can be said to be a natural pair.
